These past few weeks have felt very social for me. Over the past few years, I’ve become so used to being on my own and spending time by myself. I have been enjoying hanging out with different people, but it is so exhausting for me. I’m writing this article so that when I do need to recharge my social battery in the future, I can come back here and remember that it is indeed possible.
In the past few weeks, I’ve been slowly recharging my social battery. This has mostly involved spending an entire weekend alone or with people who don’t make me feel like I always have to be “on”. I’ve realized that I really enjoy going out and doing things, but the thing that tires me out is doing it with other people.
My favorite thing to do by myself on the weekend is go to a museum, find a food place that I’ve been wanting to try and eat there by myself and then wander around. These series of tasks make me feel so happy and warm. They also allow me to reconnect with my own thoughts and let me hear myself think.
At night, I like to recharge my social battery by cooking myself a nice meal and drinking wine. It is so incredibly relaxing for me to cook a full meal. All of the little tasks are really fun. It is also a time I don’t like to be disturbed. I like to cook and drink my wine and maybe listen to some music.
Reading this back, I do sound like an old woman, but that’s ok. These are the things that make me feel good! I also like knowing that this is what grounds me from time to time. I do like my socializing, but if I do it every weekend, I get so burnt out that I can’t give my full self to the people I’m socializing with!
