Monthly Favorites —November 2022
A bunch of things I’ve enjoyed this month.
The first half of November felt very busy. I saw a lot of friends and had a lot of work to do and errands to run. The second half of this month at home has been extremely relaxing and just what I needed. I haven’t been home in 4 months and it has felt so nice to sit in my bed and do a whole lot of nothing. I’ve caught up on my TV shows and eaten a lot of good food. It has been a good reminder for me that I do need time to relax, especially since December seems like it’s gonna be a busy month.
I’ve been slow with my reading but this book was SO good and inspired me to read Gyasi’s other book, Homegoing (which I’m reading right now). Transcendent Kingdom was so beautiful. It made me cry a couple of times. This is a book about addiction, mother-daughter relationships, grief and religion. Gyasi finds ways to weave in little morsels of self reflection that are just so goddamn beautiful. Overall, a wonderful read.
👚 Clothing, Beauty & Decor
I bought this jacket in the middle of the summer for a really good price. This jacket is actually so expensive right now and I don’t know if I would pay that much for it. It is my favorite jacket EVER (I have it in the darker green color) and it has kept me so warm so far. It is also a very stylish jacket in my opinion.
I got these last year but didn’t wear them much. I got these secondhand on Poshmark and can’t seem to find the exact style from &Other Stories anymore. They are a very pointed toe Chelsea Boot which isn’t for everyone. I love how sleek they look and after wearing them a bunch (and using my friend’s shoe expander), they have worn in really well. I would not advise getting these if you have wide feet.
I smelled this perfume and fell in love. I went back to the Aesop store and bought it. I don’t know what it is about this perfume but the mix of the fruitiness and earthiness smells so perfect to me. I like wearing a tiny bit of it on my wrists. I swear it smells better when it is on my skin rather than on a piece of clothing.
I have been wanting to eat a maritozzi for a while now. It is a sweet brioche-like bun filled with sweet cream. Lodi has a proper restaurant, but also a little bakery in the back where you can sit and enjoy delicious pastries and coffees in Rockefeller Center. The maritozzi has a vanilla lemon cream filling and it is incredible.
This place just opened up near my apartment so my roommate and I decided to go. It is a Korean tapas restaurant specializing in seafood from Busan. The interior of the restaurant was very cozy and well done. There was a lot of attention to detail with the food and plating. The food was tasty and very seafood forward. I would recommend if you like Korean food and seafood!
Finally tried GupShup and it was excellent. They have some unique takes on traditional Indian dishes which I enjoyed. I really liked their jackfruit tacos and saag paneer. The ambiance is very nice and if I went back I would love to try their unique cocktails.
🫑 Food & Recipes
I made this “chili” the other day and it was actually very good! I liked that it was spicy and creamy. I am going to make it again but I want to see if I can make it a little bit healthier. I also didn’t love the chicken and would maybe try substituting for sausage.
Ugh I love Thanksgiving food. I wish it was more acceptable to eat it year round. I love stuffing, mashed potatoes, brussel sprouts, and of course, my mom’s tasty chicken.
Selena Gomez has been so vulnerable recently and I am all about it. This song is so beautiful and although it isn’t super catchy, I love listening to it.
IDK what it is about this song but I get into phases where I can’t stop listening to it. November was one of those months.
I’ve never been to Dave & Busters but it was so fun. It’s a huge arcade and they serve drinks. We went to the one in Times Square and it was actually very affordable and a good way to spend a couple hours.
I finally went to the MOMA in New York which is SO much bigger than I thought it was. It took me a good 3 hours to just walk through all of the floors. There were some exhibits I spent longer on but I definitely need to go back to take a good look. I loved seeing Frida Kahlo & Gaugin & Cezanne. I also really liked this photography exhibit by Wolfgang Tillmans — To look without fear. There were hundreds of photographs, some small, some GIGANTIC.
Mysterious Benedict Society on Disney+
I have been obsessed with this show. If you read these books as a kid, I highly recommend watching this show. Although the show does not follow the books to a T, the ideas are still there. It is a very wholesome show and the acting and outfits and scenery is just perfect.
New Girl on Netflix
I have watched the first 3 seasons of New Girl probably 5 times, but for some reason I can never get past the third season. I always get annoyed. I am actually going forward with season 4 this time around and am really enjoying it.
Crappy Christmas Movies on Netflix
There are so many of these goddamn romcoms. I seem to want to watch them all. I did enjoy The Noel Diary, but the one with Lindsey Lohan was not good at all. Something about these movies, no matter how bad they are, give me a sense of comfort.
TrueAnon is a fun little podcast that I’ve listened to on/off for the past year. It is enjoyable and they did a podcast show in Brooklyn. It was really cool to be able to see them in person. It was more of a stand-up comedy show sort of performance and it was so fun!
✨ Random Things
I have really been enjoying standup and comedy in general. It feels so good to laugh a lot. I want to actively go to more of these, especially in New York.
Resting & Relaxing
It has been so nice to be able to come home and flop in my bed. I feel recharged for the first time this year. This year has felt so much busier than the past few years and this Thanksgiving break felt really important and welcomed. I am excited for the end of the year and all of the fun stuff in store.
💭 Final Thoughts
All in all, this was quite the wonderful month. I am so grateful to have been able to see so many of my friends and family. It feels good to be busy but it also feels good to be able to relax and have time to actually process what is going on with me and the world. The end of the year is my favorite time to reflect and I am happy that I have gotten some time to really think about what I want to do in the upcoming year.
