Spent a lot of time in my room this month!

👋 Introduction

Another monthly favorites yay! I always write these a little bit early, so don’t fret, there’s still time left in May. I just get really excited to write these and end up writing them preemptively. This month was very different from last month. I feel like I spent a majority of this month in quarantine because of ‘rona, but I did get to enjoy some fun things like my first concert in 2 years and a wedding! This month felt like someone pressed the slow motion button on my life, and I am feeling strangely grateful for it. May has been reflective and introspective, and I’ve realized how incredibly excited I am for the summer.

💖 Favorites

📚 Books

Kaikeyi by Vaishnavi Patel

A beautiful piece of historical fiction about the backstory of Kaikeyi, one of King Dashratha’s wives from the Ramayana. I love books like this. I think it’s really neat when a side character from a large piece of history can become the main character in a different story.

👚 Clothing, Beauty & Decor

Poshmark

This is not a piece of clothing but I have been unhinged on Poshmark. Quarantine made me want to buy a whole new wardrobe and I bought jeans, a crop top and a workout dress all on Poshmark. It’s a wonderful site if you know exactly what you want and you can get things in new, or almost perfect condition for a fraction of the price.

The Way-High Jean in Indigo — Everlane

I’ve been looking for a straight leg medium wash jean and this is the absolute perfect pant. It fits like a glove and is so comfortable. I did buy these secondhand but I do really appreciate Everlane’s ethical and sustainable standards for making clothing.

🍱 Restaurants

Brodo in East Village

Every time I get sick I pick up some soups and bone broths from Brodo. Their bone broth is actually so good, and you can get chicken bone broth too! My favorite is their spicy nonna chicken bone broth. I swear it cured my fever and congestion.

Chip City in West Village

Found this on Uber Eats during my quarantine. I actually don’t like Levain cookies very much anymore, I think these are a lot better! Their regular chocolate chip cookie was incredible.

🫑 Food & Recipes

Peanut Butter Filled Chocolate Covered Dates — Emily Mariko

I’ve been putting off making these for a bit but damn they are so good. They are also super easy to make if you buy pre-pitted dates. I also recommend once freezing them to put them in a container in the fridge to thaw a little. The frozen dates are a little too hard to eat. These make for a tasty little dessert.

Just Chicken Strips — Trader Joe’s

I’ve started buying these weekly because they are nice to have in the freezer. It is an extremely lazy way to make chicken. They are pre-cooked frozen grilled chicken strips. I like to season them because they are quite bland. I add them mostly to any salad that I make for a bit of extra protein.

Zinc + Manuka Honey Drops — Zicam

Unsure about the science behind these but my roommate gave them to me and I feel like they made my cold a lot shorter. They also taste pretty yummy.

🎹 Music

Dance Fever — Florence + The Machine’s new album

I love Florence + The Machine and I love the song Free on this album a lot. Her music reminds me of high school and has a hint of nostalgia in it.

I’m a Lady — Santigold (feat Trouble Andrew)

I heard this song in the Netflix movie Along for the Ride and it just has really good vibes. I like it a lot.

In Too Deep — The Chainsmokers

The Chainsmokers also came out with a new album. This is the only song I really liked from it. It felt similar to some of their older stuff from 2017ish.

👧 People

Jack Harlow — Celebrity

LMAO I can’t believe he is making this list but I went down a Jack Harlow rabbit hole and I think his interviews are very cute and he just seems like a great dude.

Thomas Straker — Chef

I’ve been watching all of his reels on Instagram where he makes lots of different types of butter.

🛣️ Places

My room in New York City

LOL just gotta give my room a shoutout. It’s seen me through my best and worst. Thank you for taking care of me and giving me a warm and comfy respite in the Big Apple.

The Brooklyn Mirage at Avant Gardner

Before ‘rona hit me, I did get to go to a concert at the Brooklyn Mirage. It’s a newly renovated outdoor venue and damn, it’s so cool. I thought the light show was so incredible and it’s a truly immersive experience.

Redge Salons — East Village

I got my first haircut that wasn’t at Supercuts or Greatclips this month and damn IT WAS LIFE CHANGING. I paid a lot of money but it was such a nice experience and they blow dried my hair and it has never looked better.

🎞️ Media

The Big Year — Netflix

This is such a fun movie. I can see this being a good watch with a group of people as well. Jack Black, Owen Wilson and Steve Martin go on a big birding adventure.

Along for the Ride — Netflix

This is an adaptation of a Sarah Dessen novel. A classic summer fling romance movie. I reallllllly loved this movie for some reason. I thought the romance was well done.

CODA — Apple TV

HOOOLy I almost forgot that I watched this movie. What an absolutely incredible movie. One of the best movies I’ve watched in a long long time. I also love that it takes place in Massachusetts.

Community — Netflix

I watched a ton of Community during peak quarantine 2020. I decided to start back up from where I left off and damn this show is so good and funny. It is so creative and never fails to make me laugh out loud.

✨ Random Things

Attending weddings hehe

I went to my first wedding recently and they are very fun. I would like to attend more so if anyone wants to invite me to their wedding I can be there. I’m not great at dancing but I do like to dance. I also enjoy eating and drinking. Thanks in advance, Rucha.

The new troll emoji

LOL I think this emoji is so fun.

💭 Final Thoughts

What a fun little month it has been. Again, feeling very grateful for my body and my health. I have greatly appreciated this time I’ve had in isolation to rest and recover. However, I am very excited to go and do some stuff this summer. I have some exciting trips planned that I am so beyond ecstatic about it’s not even funny.

I am also hoping this pandemic ends soon. It is really time for her to exit the building. I do think I need to take things a little easy for the next few weeks. Although I am healing quickly, my body does feel like it’s been hit. I feel a lot slower than usual and I have not a lot of stamina in me.

I hope everyone is doin ok! Thank you for being here and let’s have a #UnhingedGirlSummer2022!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fun times, food, and troll emojis ❤
