Getting Back Into Reading

Audio books are changing my life right now.

After I graduated college, I read a lot. I had lofty fifty-books-a-year goals that I met several years in a row. This year, my reading streak ended, and I felt myself struggling to finish books that I used to be very excited to read. Over the past few weeks, I’ve challenged myself to get back into reading, and I’ve found a surprising tool to help me out — the audio book.

I’ve never really been into audiobooks. Every time I’ve tried to get into one, I find myself getting distracted and unable to pay attention. A couple weeks ago, I joined a book club at work and decided to listen to the audiobook version of our book since I couldn’t order it from the library in time. I found myself listening to the book on walks, and long train rides. It was nice to have a story in my ears, letting me paint a picture whilst walking the streets of New York. It also helped that audio books are pretty much all free on Spotify Premium right now.

If anyone else is struggling to read right now, I encourage you to try listening to audio books to get back into things. At some point, I will go back to reading on paper, but for now, this is a good way to keep my brain active without physically reading!
